We Are on the Brink of a New Era...
...if only people would start writing independent blogs again. My contribution will be to resurrect my original blog Sufficiently Small, which was once hosted on a server somewhere near Cambridge in the UK, but has fallen into disrepair.
Over time I'll migrate the good stuff from the old site, fix broken links with permanent redirects, and generally restore order to my little corner of the web.
Once the web was "under construction". Perhaps it still is. Each of us can pick up our tools and build something of our own. Our own allotments outside the walled gardens. A shed in the corner for tinkering and experiments. A small part of a larger communal effort.
The Norwegians have a word for this kind of communal effort: "dugnad". It's not a concept that translates easily into the English language, still less into Anglo culture. It's voluntary work for the common good, and it's necessary for a smoothly-running, pleasant and habitable society.
